Ho Chi Minh City Restaurant Review: Vegan Kitchen – Bếp Thuần Chay

So i’ve been in Ho Chi Minh City for a week now and in that time i’ve eaten tonnes of yummy vegan food.

One place that i’ve been back to at least 3 times now, as well as ordering a takeaway from just this morning, is the Vegan Kitchen.

Their Menu

First of all, the location has been perfect for me as my apartment is only 10 minutes walk away. Secondly, they are a fully vegan establishment which makes ordering that bit easier. Last of all, their food is tasty, authentic, and reasonably priced (an average meal for me including 2 courses, a drink, and a dessert, has been around the equivalent of £4).

You can actually eat a lot cheaper than this by visiting a Cơm Cháy establishment. These normally cost around 25000vnd (approx. 80 pence) for a buffet of rice and cold vegetarian foods, like lemongrass tofu, morning glory, and various fried vegetables. Often very tasty and convenient.

An example of the food you’d normally get in Cơm Cháy

However, Vegan Kitchen is a much more modern establishment which may suit some people more than the more homely and modest feel of Cơm Cháy establishments.

Here is a selection of what I have eaten at the Vegan Kitchen restaurant:

Here you will see their fake chicken Phở, summer rolls, winter melon salad, battered mushrooms, and banana cake. Don’t worry, these weren’t all eaten in one sitting…

The takeaway this morning was super yummy! I’d seen their broken rice dish being ordered a few times when i’ve been there so I thought it would be worth a try and I wasn’t disappointed.

Whilst I don’t always enjoy eating fake meat, these were particularly good. Asia definitely has much better quality fake meat than we do in England. Possibly due to their religious ties to vegetarianism.

Also, they do great organic coffee! A lot of coffee in Vietnam is roasted with butter and/or fish sauce, so I have been avoiding buying any coffee from a non-veggie establishment.

I would highly recommend visiting their restaurant if you happen to be in Ho Chi Minh City! Plus they deliver to their surrounding area, so just give them a call on the number below (some of the staff speak brilliant English)!
